Old is New Again

As a found object artist, my main material of choice is old stuff.  Fellow Arts in RI members are often sharing their old stuff with me, thinning their own bursting at the seams studios by sharing unique and rusty bits and pieces.  It’s just one of the many benefits of being part of the super creative Arts in RI team.

Recently Anne Scotti of AnneMadeDesigns.etsy.com gave me a big old wooden bin full of cool and unique found objects to use in my work.  I can’t tell you what fun it was to go through that bin, uncovering such wonderful treasures; each old item inspiring new ideas.  My friend Carol Mania, of LodestarWovens.etsy.com gave me a bunch of old hardware too, along with many large, chunky pieces of wood.

“Just Spring” and “June Night” are just two in a series of works that incorporate objects from my updated stash.  I love these pieces, inspired by the newly shared objects but touching on themes that I use often — song and story, movement and time.

It’s such a joy to pursue art that makes old new again! Enjoy!
